Halloween Help

Most children went door to door on Halloween gathering up all the sweets their satchets could handle, but for four local girls trick or treating was for much more than to satisfy a sweet tooth.  Jenna Corwin and her friends decided to make their love for animals and Safe Harbor their mission that night.

The four girls hit the streets dressed in their Halloween costumes with a goal to raise money for the animals at Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital, instead of candy.  Going door to door, they explained their mission and how much Safe Harbor needed help to continue their mission to help those without a voice.  Their community came through and the girls delivered their donation to Safe Harbor this week.  All in all, the girls raised $100.00!  Safe Harbor thanks Jenna and her friends for their dedication and passion.  It's children like these four that makes the world a better place.

SAFE HARBOR TO HOLD MEMORIAL FOR CATS THAT PERISHED IN MARCH

JUPITER, FL -- On Saturday, June 7, Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital will host a memorial service to pay tribute to the 14 cats that had perished during the March 14 fire at Safe Harbor. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Carlin Park East Ocean Side in Jupiter.

Rev. Scott Peterson of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will preside over the service. The memorial will also include lighting of candles, words of tribute, poetry readings and songs from students at ArtStage, and then the release of the ashes into the ocean.

The memorial service is open to the entire community and their animals.

“We will never forget these 14 precious animals - and certainly the heroism of our police and fire officials, and the extraordinary support of the community,” said Roca. “This is our humble way to pay tribute and also find closure to the tragic fire and events in March.”

Construction is underway to rebuild the veterinary clinic which was totally destroyed during the fire. A secondary clinic has been constructed in the interim to handle the medical care of stray dogs and cats, as well as regular clients’ needs.

Completion of the new veterinary clinic is expected sometime in late July or August 2008. The public will be invited to the grand opening and celebration of the new clinic. The first responders from local and county fire and police departments will also be recognized and honored.

For more information regarding the memorial service, please visit Safe Harbor’s website at www.safeharboranimalrescue.com or call Safe Harbor at 561-747-5311 or Kay-Lynette Roca at 561-309-2043.

Devastating Fire at Safe Harbor
March 18, 2008

In the early morning hours of Friday, March 14, 2008, Safe Harbor's Animal Hospital went up in flames. In spite of the heroic efforts of Jupiter Police, Palm Beach County Firefighters and Safe Harbor staff, 14 animals perished. Six cats and two dogs survived the inferno and are expected to ultimately recover. Thanks to the quick response of the firefighters, Safe Harbor's Dog Adoption Shelter located next door and the forty plus dogs residing there were spared.

Click here to see some photos of the damage.

The damage to the Hospital isdevastating. The lobby and front half of the Hospital are in charredruins. The rear portion has been severely damaged by smoke and heat. The Dog Adoption Shelter is without power and the air is heavy with thelingering smell of smoke. As a result, our dogs have been removed fromthe Shelter and are temporarily in the loving homes of volunteers whocame forward to open their homes and their hearts to these animals inneed.

Now, with the help of staff and volunteers, we at Safe Harbor arestanding up, dusting off the ashes, and starting over. We arerebuilding our hospital and are expecting it to be better than ever. Inorder to do this, we will need the continued support of the thecommunity. Thanks to the donations of our supporters, we have filledour storage resources to overflowing with dog and cat food, bedding andcleaning supplies. At this point, our needs are primarily financial.Any monetary donations, large or small, will be gratefully accepted.Your tax deductible donation can be made via our website atwww.safeharboranimalrescue.com, in person at Suite 205, by phone at(561) 747-5311, or by mailing a check to: Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary& Hospital, 185 E. Indiantown Rd., #205, Jupiter, FL 33477.

As our Adoption Cattery is across the shopping center from ourHospital, it was not impacted by the fire. Cat intakes and adoptionswill continue uninterrupted. The phone number to Safe Harbor's Catteryis (561) 747-7676. At this time, however, we are asking that intakes toour Dog Adoption Shelter be limited to those of a life or death nature.Questions concerning Dog Shelter intakes may be addressed by calling(561) 747-5311.

Until our Hospital is reconstructed, we will be relocating ourveterinary services to Suite 222 at Seagrape Square. Our Surgery isundamaged as it is located in our Boarding Facility and will continueto be open by appointment for spay / neuter and other surgicalservices. We anticipate our temporary veterinary hospital to be openfor business on Monday, March 24, 2008. Appointments can be made bycalling (561) 747-1598 Extension 1. Please continue to support SafeHarbor's Animal Hospital as the revenue generated by our veterinaryservices are crucial to our mission of helping animals in need.

Words cannot express the gratitude those of us at Safe Harbor feel forthe outpouring of support from the community. Without the generosityand compassion expressed by so many of you, this tragedy would havebeen almost unbearable. Your support has truly given us strength. Thanks to you, our supporters, Safe Harbor will rise from the ashes ofthis disaster to be better and stronger than ever!
