Official Rules of the 2010 Dog Olympics & Games
Egg & Spoon Race: The first team to reach the finish line with the egg in the spoon wins! All teams begin together with the handler holding the handle of the spoon with the egg in it. Either hand may be used to hold the egg and spoon. On the GO signal, the handlers dash to and around the halfway pole and to the finish line. If the egg drops from the spoon, the handler must stop and replace it, then continue. Dogs must be on leash for this event. Disqualifications: Holding the spoon near the bowl, holding the egg in position with the fingers or thumb, and moving forward while replacing a dropped egg.
Water Balance Walk: The team completing the obstacle course with the most water remaining in his cup wins! The water cup and leash must be held in the same hand. On the GO signal, the handlers move through the obstacle course (example, figure-eight around cones, sit in chair and sit dog, pick up item from the ground, etc.) and proceed to the finish line. Dogs must be on leash for this event. Disqualifications: Dropping cup.
Tricks: This is an event scored by our panel of judges. Tricks can be anything from a single trick to a routine of multiple behaviors. One dog and one handler. Dogs can be on leash or off leash for this one. Disqualifications: Dog not in control if off leash.
Treat Catching Contest: This is an elimination contest. All teams start out together. All dogs must be on leash. On the GO command, the handler tosses the treat in the air to the dog and the dog must catch it in the air. Handlers may be instructed to step back further from dog and toss treat. This sequence is repeated until only one dog remains as the winner. Disqualifications: Unruly dogs, handler handing the treat instead of tossing it.

"Sit Happens": This is an event scored by our panel of judges. Dog must demonstrate the ability to respond to the signal "sit" under a variety of circumstances and settings as follows:
1. Front Sit: Dog sits on cue facing handler.
2. Side Sit: Dog sits on cue at handler's side
3. Ground Sit: Dog sits on cue with handler sitting on ground
4. Ground / Back Sit: Dog sits on cue with handler sitting on the ground with back to the dog.
5. Handler Down/Sit: Dog sits with handler lying down on the ground.
6. Down - Sit: Handler tells dog to down and stay, steps six feet away, cues dog to sit (from down)
7. Long Distance Sit: Helper takes leash, walks dog approximately 25 feet away, and drops the leash; handler calls dog; cues dog to sit when dog reaches halfway point.
Dogs will be scored on speed and reliability. Dogs must be all the way down in a sit. All exercises must be on leash unless otherwise indicated. Treats may be used as rewards after dog sits and not as a lure to entice dog to sit. Multiple cues allowed but will receive penalty points. Disqualifications: physical corrections, luring the sit, touching or pushing dog to sit
